About this site

This website is primarily to showcase, compare and contrast the wonderful range of fine double bass instruments made by independent contemporary makers worldwide. There is no advertising and no maker is favoured or endorsed over another.

All information and pictures are provided and owned and copyrighted by the makers themselves.

If you are interested in a particular instrument or maker, please contact the maker directly via the links in the description on their page.

To provide feedback, or to request inclusion of your handmade instrument in the Showcase, contact me  here.

The site is owned and run by myself, Matthew Tucker, double bass luthier in Sydney,  out of pure interest. I do receive some sponsorship from the International Society of Bassists.
However, this is not a commercial enterprise and I do not receive any financial benefit from any of the makers on this site, other than voluntary contributions to support hosting costs. If you appreciate this site and you'd like to make a small donation to help keep it going, click here
The aim is to include as many genuine independent makers here as possible, however inclusion on this website is entirely at my discretion.

Terms and Conditions of Participation

Contemporary double bass makers may initially submit for display one completed  double bass build completed in the preceding 18 months.

The bass must bear an individual maker's name, not a company.  A bass may not be submitted more than once.

Makers may submit up to 20 images, a text description and up to three links back to their page or social media. No pricing information may be included.

One image MUST be a clear front-on shot of the instrument body only, cropped loosely and minimum height 800pixels. I will do the final crop to fit the style of this website. Basses look better when photographed against a neutral grey or white background. Suggested minimum images are:  Front body, back body, side body, front full length, front scroll, side scroll, back scroll, back heel/shoulders.

Makers are invited to make a small voluntary contribution for each submission to cover my site editing, domain and hosting costs.

Newly submitted basses will be placed at the top of the main page, in the long run basses will be displayed most recent first.

Makers will be listed in menus alphabetically by surname.

Text description may be edited or formatted at administrators discretion to comply with conditions and style of the website.

Other menu/page arrangements by shape/location may be added at the discretion of the site admin.
